English Language, Alternative Assessment. Semester 1, 2009. Topic: Blogging (Information about the career of my choice)

When I grow up, I want to become a nurse. Since I was a child, I have promised myself that I will become a nurse when I grow up. Reason being that I think that it is a meaningful occupation and at the same time I would be doing something that I enjoy.
For now, I shall share some information about being a nurse.
A nurse is a health care professional and a nurse is responsible for the treatment, safety, and recovery of acutely or chronically ill or injured people. Other than that, a nurse is also responsible for health maintenance of the healthy, and treatment of life-threatening emergencies in a wide range of health care settings.
Nurses may also be involved in medical and nursing research and perform a wide range of non-clinical functions necessary to the delivery of health care. Nurses also provide care at birth and death.
There are several distinct levels of nursing, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners. Nurse is a one of the most female-dominated occupations, however more men are becoming nurses today.
Although parents, friends and people around me disapprove of my ambition, I still stick to my stand. My parents think that I will not become a nurse as I am a lazy girl at home, who does not do any house chores, although I am told not to do any. My friends think that many patients will get into trouble under my care as they think that I am often forgetful and careless. Another reason to it is that, they are afraid that the hospital would not have any more patients as they have 'die' under my care. But, being a nurse is meaningful, you do your best to help or save someone. I shall end here for now, take care folks!
